KAHN / CROSS / ORCUTT

Poet Elaine Kahn plays as Horsebladder, I read poems, and the legendary Bill Orcutt plays guitar. This is going to be nuts. Sat. 8/30, 8pm, Woolsey Heights: 1628 Woolsey St., Apt. C, Berkeley.

Wendy's Subway

When Jamie Townsend was in town a few weeks back, he handed off a new newsprint journal representing the Wendy's Subway collective in Brooklyn. I'm not sure if the contributors listed above represent the core organizers of the space, or if these folks are simply near and dear to the collective's heart (the collective heart?!), but I love the magazine (which reminds me of the over-sized newsprint number coming out of Portland a few years back...David Abel and Robert Mittenthal were connected to that one I think? What was the name?). Anyway, I don't know enough about the space to get a sense of how it works, but it certainly looks promising from the outside...Learn more here.

Elderly 5

Jamie and Nicholas Elderly are at it again, this time featuring a slew of our best. Here's the current lineup:

CASSANDRA GILLIG
ALANA SIEGEL
MEL BENTLEY
TED REES
MALI SCOTT
ROBERT GLÜCK

I feel well cared for these days in the magazine department, what with this brilliance, Steve Orth's Where Eagles Dare, etc. David Brazil handed off some extra copies of TRY! the other day, and though I'd usually feel a twinge of nostalgia, Jamie, Nicholas, and company are keeping the faith...

New Portable Press @ Yo-Yo Labs

It's always great news when Brenda Iijima's Portable Press @ Yo-Yo Labs begins cranking out new work. These are the four newest chapbooks to land in my mailbox (though I think I'm missing at least three new ones?): Robert Kocik's E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E in its first edition (which we loved so much we used it as a prototype when designing the version that appears in Kocik's Supple Science), Julie Patton's Notes for Some (Nominally) Awake, Marissa Perel's Angry Ocean 1-10 (which comes highly recommended by tons of people I trust!), and another new one from C.J. Martin (who is having just an INCREDIBLE run at the moment!). It is imperative to support everything that Brenda does, so take a look at the current lineup here...

Left Helicon by Luke Roberts

I was pleased to land some new Luke Roberts in the mail the other day, and this one must be making the rounds as I saw Rob Halpern carrying it around with him at his reading at Woolsey Heights a few weeks back. Great stuff here, though it's not easy to come by in the states: you might have to write Rod Mengham in the UK to get one. That said, Luke sent me two extra copies, so I'll send it out to the first two people to get in touch...
